Por primera vez, la premiación de películas impulsada por MTV también reconocerá programas de televisión. Ahora, el evento se llamará MTV Movie & TV Awards. Este año la ceremonia se llevará a cabo el Domingo 7 de Mayo.
El gigante del cable anunció la lista de nominados. Stranger Things, uno de los mayores éxitos de Netflix, lidera la categoría de televisión, con cuatro nominaciones, incluyendo «Programa del Año» y dos nominaciones para Millie Bobbie Brown, por su personaje Eleven. Game of Thrones, de HBO, fue la segunda serie con más nominaciones.
